Edit an Asset

You can update an asset's details at any time after creation. This includes changing the name, type, environment, criticality, identifiers, group assignment, owner, and tags.

INFO

Requires Posture Manager role or higher.

Opening the Edit Form

There are two ways to access the edit form:

From the Asset List

  1. Navigate to Assets in the sidebar.
  2. Find the asset you want to edit.
  3. Click the Actions menu (gear icon) on the asset row.
  4. Select Edit.

From the Asset Detail Page

  1. Open the asset detail page for the asset.
  2. Click the Actions button in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Edit from the dropdown menu.

Editable Fields

The edit form is identical to the create form, with all fields pre-populated with the asset's current values.

Asset Type

Change the asset type by selecting a new value from the dropdown. The category updates automatically based on the selected type.

WARNING

Changing the asset type may affect which policies are applicable to this asset. Policies scoped to a specific type or category will be added or removed from evaluation accordingly.

Name

Update the asset name to a new descriptive label.

Environment

Change the environment designation (Dev, Test, Staging, Prod). This can affect policy applicability if you have policies scoped to specific environments.

Criticality

Adjust the business criticality (Low, Medium, High, Critical). This influences how AttackLens prioritizes findings and attack paths involving this asset.

Owner

Assign a different user as the asset owner, or clear the owner to unassign. The owner field is optional.

Group

Move the asset to a different group or remove it from its current group. Changing the group affects which group-level policies apply to this asset.

Tags

Add or remove tags. To add a tag, type the name and press comma. To remove a tag, click the "x" on the tag chip.

Identifiers

Add, modify, or remove identifiers:

  • Add: Click Add Identifier, select a type, and enter a value
  • Edit: Change the type dropdown or value text field on an existing identifier row
  • Remove: Click the trash icon next to the identifier

WARNING

Changing or removing identifiers may trigger new conflict detection. If the new identifier matches an existing asset, a conflict will be created. Conversely, removing an identifier that caused a conflict will not automatically resolve the existing conflict.

Active Status

Toggle the Active switch to activate or deactivate the asset.

  • Active: The asset is included in policy evaluations, vulnerability correlation, and attack graph computations
  • Inactive: The asset is excluded from active evaluations but retained for historical records

Saving Changes

Click Update to save your changes. You will be redirected back to the asset detail page.

TIP

All changes take effect immediately. The next policy evaluation cycle will use the updated asset properties.

Audit Trail

Every edit to an asset is recorded in the audit log. The log entry includes who made the change, when it was made, and which fields were modified.
